One win in the regional playoffs, even if they lose the championship, guarantees the Lady Panthers a trip to the state playoffs at the end of next week, site to be determined.
In the regionals this week, the Panthers host the runner-up from the James River District. If they win that game they will play the regional championship on May 29 at a site to be determined.
For Thursday’s game the school’s new Booster Club will be operating a concession stand.
The Panthers’ loss to Strasburg was the second time the Rams have upset the Panthers’ apple cart this season—just two weeks ago Strasburg ruined their hopes for a perfect season in the final contest of the regular schedule.
But to get to the tournament championship, Rappahannock first beat Page 5U in a close game that was won when Cyndi Welch hit a double in the fifth inning, driving home Dietrich Beaver. Lori Paratore, Leah Marlett, Beaver and Welch accounted for Rappahannock’s hits. All-District pitcher Susan Payne gave up only five hits in getting her 16th win of the year.
