President George Bush has issued a major disaster declaration for 24 counties and cities in Virginia affected by the April 21-22 flooding. This disaster declaration came in response to Gov. L. Douglas Wilder’s May 4 request and will provide federal and state funding to assist citizens and localities recovering from flood damages.
The president approved federal disaster assistance for Albemarle County, Amherst County, Augusta County, Bedford County, Botetourt County, Buena Vista, Carroll County, Craig County, Floyd County, Franklin County, Greene County, Montgomery County, Nelson County, Page County, Patrick County, Pulaski County, Rappahannock County, Roanoke, Roanoke County, Rockbridge County, Rockingham County, Salem, Vinton and Warren County. s
These localities and their residents will be eligible for a variety of assistance programs to help with disaster recovery.
