the community a Title I Summer Program in which all children in the county who will be entering first grade in the county’s public school in the fall for the first time are urged to participate. The program will begin on Thursday, June 29, and will run through Thursday, July 27. July 3 and 4 will be holidays. The hours of the activities will be from 9 a.m. to Noon. Transportation along main routes will be provided. A schedule of bus routes will be published later.
Cadet Glenn Colt Hourahan of Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, Pa. has been given the superintendent’s award as Outstanding Plebe of the Year. He has been an honor roll student, maintained A’s in Military Science and Military Courtesy, been elected to membership in the Honor Legion, earned a certificate in the National Educational Development Tests and received a medal in marksmanship from the National Rifle Association. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Hourahan of Mountain Shadows Farm, Washington, Va.
Farmers that signed up to participate in the Wheat and Feed Grain Programs are reminded to certify their planted acres and designate their setaside acres at the County ASCS Office. Farmers who are not planning to plant any crops can designate their set-aside acreage now. Those that are planting crops can certify as soon as they finish planting. Those who have doubts about the quality or quantity of acreage can still receive pre-measurement service. Applications for this service are accepted at the ASCS Office in
