The students at Rappahannock High are discovering how easy it is to become active in our school.
The Student Council Association (SCA) has had a rather busy month with the election of the 1995-96 officers. Heading up this year’s campaign was Mrs. Jeanie Grimes.
This election has been the first in which we have held a “political rally.” At the rally each of the candidates got a chance to speak in an assembly with the entire student body present. The campaign demonstrated an abundance of school pride. During election time the halls were brightly decorated with campaign posters. The candidates were very enthusiastic and eager for election day.
The outcome is rather extraordinary with myself as President and my sister, Nancie Gallegos, as Viee President. Cara Cutro has been elected Secretary and Chris Sause will be taking care of financial matters as Treasurer.
Candy anyone? This is a question that is frequently asked at the high school. The junior class just finished up their candy sales and the senior class is about to begin theirs. Many students have found that in the past selling candy is one of the most profitable fundraisers.
However, this year there has been more creativity in the fundraising department thanks to Laura Conklin, coach of the Varsity girls basketball team. The Lady Panthers are sponsoring the “Kiss a pig contest!” Students are asked to place money on the teacher whom they would like to see kiss a pig. The teacher who ends up with the most money wins the privilege of kissing a pig.
