Del. Jay Katzen explained the Contract with Virginians he and other Republican delegates and challengers signed in Richmond last month at a rally held for him at Bob and Trish Darby’s house Saturday night.*
“Rarely has there been a cleaner choice between policies and candidates,” he said.
Under the contract the Republicans promised to “prevent the early release of violent criminals by guaranteeing adequate prison space to house them, and we will take strong action to address the growing problem of violent crime by juveniles,” he said.
He said the Democratic majority in the General Assembly had “failed to support” funding for 8,700 additional prison beds in the last session.”
The second promise is to “return lotteri profits to localities to be used for education, law enforcement, or tax relief,” Del. Katzen said. He added he voted against a bill to designate lottery profits for education because it was “just moving money around. I don’t vote for phony bills."
The third promise, Del. Katzen said, is to “promote economic growth and the creation of jobs by eliminating wasteful government spending and reducing excessive taxes.” He accused his opponent Democrat Sue Scheer of favoring “increased taxing authority.”
