Harry Peterson
Cdr. USN (Ret.) Harry W. Peterson died Monday, Oct. 2 at Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton,
He was born in Red Wing, Minnesota.
His military education included the Armed Forces Staff College, the post graduate school in Monterey, California and at the Naval Air Test Center, Patuxent River, Mary land.
He served aboard the U.S.S. Essex, attached to Air Group 83 during World War II. During the Korean conflict, he was aboard the U.S.S. Valley Forge and later was Commanding Officer of Fasran S at NAS Oceana.
Among his military decorations are the Distinguished Flying Cross with three stars, the air medal with six stars, the Presidential Unit Citation with one star and several campaign ribbons. I
He was aboard the U.S.S. Lake Champlain and participated in the recovery of R. Adm. Alan Shepard on the 1st orbital flight of a space craft.
After navy retirement, Cdr. Peterson worked for Bell Aerospace in Buffalo, N Y. and spent time in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam.
He is surv iving by his wife of 53 years, Jane Ann; a daughter, Judith
