The consensus from the entries submitted and based on the fact that similar markings of a larger dark forepart and smaller rear dark band were found on all entries resulted in forecasting that the first half of the winter form Nov. 15 through Jan. 15 would be normal in both temperature and precipitation, but that a milder period, Jan. 16 through the end of March, was to be expected with above average temperatures and little snow.
Therefore, since the Almanack predicted a severe winter last year, the Woolly Bears did better than the Almanack.
