The board has waited until work is nearly complete on improvements to the sewage lagoon at the elementary school before proceeding with the other projects because bond funds from the elementary school addition will be used for these improvements, and they felt they had to be certain there would be no surprises from the lagoon work before asking for bids for further projects.
Director of administrative services David Smith said the lagoon work is between 80 and 85 percent complete. The lagoon needs more liquid contents, which can come from normal use or rainfall before much more can be done, he said.
Superintendent David Gangel said the school system will soon also request bids on installing lights at the high school parking lot.
The board turned dq*wn a parent’s request to extend a school bus route to pick up her 11-year old. Mary Jane Swift said she has to leave home at 4:30 a.m. to get to a job in Northern Virginia. She is paying $400 per month to have a taxi get her daughter
