To the Editor:
The performance of Jay Katzen at
the Candida t'fs^FSi&mi Mondays evening reminds one of aSifaTcSoil salesman. His ability to obfuscate the facts is amazing.
He states that over the past 15 years Commonwealth spending has increased 345 percent. During the 12 years of Holton, Godwin, Dalton (Republicans), the Commonwealth budget grew by 210 percent. Under Robb, Baliles, and Wilder (Democrats), the budge only grew by 135 percent.
When you consider that Medicaid giowth exploded 160 percent from 1981 to 1992, it is indeed commendable that the Democratic governors were able to cut government spending by 75 percent. .
Mr. Katzen says that his charter schools are “Public Schools.” He did not tell you that these schools can operate with unlicensed teachers and without meeting standards established by the Commonwealth for accreditation. What Jay Katzen wants to do is to take your local taxes and shift it to “quasi public schools.”
Mr. Katzen tried to weasel out of the fact that he voted to force the county to adopt an ordinance that says we must allow trailers in agricultural districts. Besides usurping the power of the Board of Supervisors to have a zoning ordinance commensurate with the desire of the community, he takes away a livelihood of many of our local builders and contractors for “stick built” homes when trailers are hauled in.
1 would suggest to the voters of Rappahannock County they watch the performance of Jay Katzen and notice the numerous instances of his double talk. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.
