Comment on the application ranged from supportive to opposed. Zoning Administrator John McCarthy said that he had “no problem with the numbers (of the proposed enrollment) but had a problem, possibly, or a concern with making what is temporary, permanent.” He also voiced reservations about the temporary school proximity to Castleton View Road, stating that he has “a concern about kids being so close to the road . . . we’ve been playing the odds.”
Hearthstorie teacher Kate Pentland responded to the safety concern by noting that the school is fenced, that there is a gate that is kept closed when the children are in school, and that there is a parking lot between the fence and the road. Mr. Baumgardner had also mentioned that the Maazel’s had constructed a tunnel under Castleton View Road to assure student safety, and were seeking approval on another under Hope Hill Road for access to the permanent facility.
