BRIDGE/STRUCTURE INSPECTOR #02908

District Structure and Bridge Section

Will operate an underbridge inspection device, locally and throughout the State of Virginia, to provide access for bridge inspections. Performs preventive maintenance on heavy-duty bridge equipment. May also perform inspections of all bridge components for deterioration, deficiencies and defects in accordance with National Bridge Inspection Standards; complies and maintains bridge/structure inspection reports, obtains photographs and measurements, prepares sketches and performs basic trigonometry computations. Candidates must have current working knowledge of basic math and drafting procedures and skill using computers. Must have demonstrated ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment, especially bridge inspection equipment; perform manual labor in all types of weather and at heights; and use hand tools and inspection equipment; and prepare reports. Requires extensive, over night statewide travel, Commercial Driver’s license, physical examination and safety shoes. Bridge inspection experience as required by the National Bridge Inspection Standards; certification based on either successful completion of the comprehensive training course that is based on the “Bridge Inspection Training Manual”: or Level II Bridge Safety Inspection certification under the NICET program is preferred. Selected candidate subject to a pre-employment drug test. Salary: $23,675 - $36,962. NOTE: If there is an insufficient number of qualified applicants for the Bridge/Structure Inspector, the position may be filled as a Bridge/Structure Inspector Trainee with a salary of $18,218 - $23,276. Comparable duties/qualifications as stated above. Additional positions may be filled from this applicant pool for the Culpeper District Structures and Bridge Section for 90 days after the closing date.
