Winants meets her to exercise the horses daily, then rushes off to his “real job” as a fiber optic technician. “If I could make a living with the horses,” he said wistfully, “I’d still be doing it full time.”
Instead, he lives for the racing. “The highs are extremely high. When I get on a well-trained thoroughbred that can jump with the wind, it’s a feeling that’s just not paralleled.”
