Sterling Larrabee, a great hunting man and one of the founding fathers of the Virginia Gold Cup, once wrote that, “Everyone who hunts in Virginia today owes to the early Virginia spprtsman an everlasting debt of gratitude. ..these distinguished pioneers developed and fostered a love for the chase which has persisted amongst Virginians even to the present time.”
The Rider. For the Virginian, life in the saddle grows from foxhunting, then to take the horse on to the show ring, the point-to-point, eventing or the steeplechase circuit. Something of a romantic adventurer, if young and knows no better, he or she will ride anyone’s horse in about any race just for the kick of a ride and the honor of winning.
