There are special types of snaffles for different needs: The hill cheek snaffle adds to the guiding ability of the rider. The tall metal cheekpieces come into play laterally when, for instance, the rider pulls on the left rein - the right side of the bit presses on the outside of the horse’s mouth and he is thus encouraged to turn.
