Various scouting groups in Rappahannock will receive American and Troop flags through the courtesy of the Amissville Ruritan Club and the Rappahannock Woman’s Club. Girls Scout Troop 547 of Flint Hill was given an American flag by the Amissville Ruritan Club. The Woman’s Club has contributed funds for the purchase of four troop flags for county groups. A craft workshop held Wednesday under the direction of the Rappahannock Extension Service included making egg jewelry and tole pictures. Eunice Enkoge and Phyllis Saker of Harrisonburg instructed the group in these crafts. Among those present were Mrs. Frances Lawrence, Mrs. Lewellyn Allison, Home Agent, Mrs. Mary Jordan, Mrs. Alice Lawrence, Mrs. Violet Cooley and Mrs. Mary Priest.

The School Board got a taste of the budget Superintendent David Gangel will submit in March at its meeting last Tuesday evening. With no additional monies expected from the state, indeed with the strong possibility that Rappahannock will get fewer dollars from Richmond, Dr. Gangel said he will ask for a six percent across-the-board salary increase for school system employees. Sperryville High School’s class of 1949 held its 40th reunion at Panorama recently. Gathering were Wayne Brown, H.B. Wood, Betty Welch, Colleen Dennis, Charles Sisk, Nancy Yowell Starr, Gordon Thornhill, Betty Brown Overhulser, Barbara Wayland Blalock, Evelyn Sisk Dellinger and Myrtle Burke Falls. Of the 15 graduates, all but three attended, along with teachers Mary Quaintance Snead, Pauline Bruce and Stella Dennis Johnson, and all enjoyed an evening of reminiscences, photos and other memories of the past 40 years.
