Virginia-connections captured three of nine National Steeplechase Association 1999 championships.
Middleburg’s Kinross Farm, owned by Zohar BenDov, emerged as a force on the NSA circuit, winning eight of 28 timber starts, with four seconds and a third and nearly $100,000 as “leading timber owner” for the 1999 season.
Kinross won twice as many timber races as any other owner last year, with newcomer Company Eight, a Virginiabred, winning three of four. Gold Quoit won twice, including once beating NSA timber champion Saluter, and pocketed $33,000. Trained by English native Neil Morris, Kinross horses also enjoyed a solid season over hurdles; the stable placed 10th in the overall owners’ standings with $114,250 in earnings.
