Efforts by The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community(RAAC) and the Washington Town Council to revamp the Town’s Fourth of July celebration appear to be bearing fruit—in more than a figurative sense. Led by Town Councilman and RAAC President Charlie Tompson and RAAC Vice President Ellen Manson, the Fourth of July Committee has opted to steer a course that will bring the event ‘back home,’ and feature the skills and wares of more Rappahannock folk and fewer outside vendors.
Already there are plans to promote the exhibition of Rappahannock-produced food products, organic foods, and wines, as well as pottery and handcrafts and the works of local artists.
