courses may have gates, bars and small jumps, but all of the jumps are optional. Hunts that offer these types of paces usually accept post entries on race days, but those interested may want to call the information number to be sure.
Beginning in 1999, the junior division changed to junior-adult, and these pairs may consist of two juniors, or one junior and one adult. Both adult and junior-adult pairs compete over a preset course in the host hunt’s country to try to reach an optimum time which is set by the host hunt.
Courses range from 2 to 4 miles, with 10 to 20 jumps, which usually include an assortment of coops, poles, or stone walls. Most jumps are about 3 feet. Though no schooling is allowed on the courses, riders can usually pick up maps and walk the courses the week before the pace.
