Well, if you believe Steve Ralls’ letter attacking me last
week, the lines are drawn clearly.
If you are a Christian who believes that marriage is the union between one man and one woman you should support Walt Longyear for the House of Delegates. On the other hand, if you are anti-Christian and/or believe that marriage is the union between any number of people without regard to their sex, you should oppose Walt Longyear.
That sounds good to me.
For those who question whether marriage, families and Christianity are under attack should re-read Mr. Ralls’ letter. What is striking is the intolerance that he directs toward anyone who has a different point of view from his own.
You can see right through this, can’t you?
According to him, anyone who disagrees with gay marriage is “small minded, out-of-date, ignorant and hatefully espouses a tired and ineffective Christian ethic.” Anyone who agrees with him is enlightened and modem.
The underlying premise of Mr. Ralls’ belief in gay marriage is that there are no objective truths by which our society should operate. According to him we should be free to create our own truth and let the chips fall where they may.
Well, the chips have fallen and it’s not pretty.
This attitude has given us an AIDS epidemic, abortion-ondemand, a pandemic of out-of-wedlock births, severely dysfunctional relationships and homes tom apart by drugs, pornography, abuse and infidelity.
The center piece of my campaign for the House of Delegates is my belief that families are worthy of our efforts to strengthen and support them.
As a father, I know that marriage and children are two important things that give meaning and pleasure to life.
