Mark Warner for Governor
We don’t envy our next governor. Gone are the
budget surpluses of the last few years, and the
Commonwealth is facing a revenue shortfall that could reach hundreds of millions of dollars this year.
Mark Warner is a successful businessman who has never held elective office — just like George W. Bush was before he was elected governor of Tbxas. And like Pres. Bush, we think that Mr. Warner already has shown that he can work well with people of all political persuasions. He has been endorsed by groups from teachers to police to firefighters to business people, as well as many long-time Republicans.
He has worked with Senator George Allen (R-Va.) to help communities become more involved in their children’s schools. The next governor will have to work well with the General Assembly to return Virginia to solvency. We think Mr. Warner can do that.
Additionally, we feel that he is honestly committed to improving education, and in particular, higher education, an area that has been sadly neglected by the Gilmore administration. Mr. Warner pledges to rectify that situation.
Finally, as a business person who made his fortune in the high-tech world, we think that Mr. Warner truly understands — as no one outside the business world can — the requirements and the importance of the new economy to the state, the region and Rappahannock County.
For these reasons, we strongly endorse Mark Warner for governor.
