An automobile collision on U. S. 211 in front of Hackley’s Store in Amissville Monday afternoon claimed the life of well-known Rappahannock citizen and longtime storekeeper Emmett Graham Hackley, 85.
According to the State Police report, the accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m.
Mr. Hackley pulled onto U. S. 211 from the stop sign at the intersection of Route 642, and into the path of an eastbound Virginia State Police cruiser operated by Sgt. Todd Taylor.
At the time, Sgt. Taylor was responding to an airplane crash that had happened minutes before near the Warrenton-Fauquier Airport.
Sgt. Taylor was operating his emergency equipment at the time of the accident, and his speed has not been determined.
Mr. Hackley was airlifted to Fairfax Hospital, where he died at 6:06 p.m. Monday. Sgt. Taylor was transported to Fauquier Hospital, where he remains in fair condition.
Sgt. Taylor’s 2000 Ford Crown Victoria received $18,000 in damage, while Mr. Hackley’s 1994 GMC pickup truck suffered $5,000 in damage.
