Rappahannock Garden club members learned much about preserving the environment, right in our their own back yards, from Mrs. Jay (Paddy) Katzen, speaker at the club’s October meeting. ; As a special assistant to Virginia’s Secretary of Natural Resources, Mrs. Katzen sees Jier job as linking Virginians to their environment, mainly as individuals. She maintains J,hat it’s what each of us does that’s important.
Mrs. Katzen exposed the tlub to many state programs, publicized through her office, that would help individuals, as well as groups, better our environment. One program called “Bayscapes,” a homeowners guide to back yard conservation, discusses measures such as tree planting, wildlife habitat, ponds and wetlands, composting, mulching, and nutrient management.
