Puck also delivers the potion to the fairy queen (who is estranged from the fairy king), and she falls in love with Bottom (Kevin Kline), a weaver and actor who, in another fairy spell, becomes one with a donkey (we warned you this is confusing!) Oberon, reviewing his handiwork, discovers Puck’s mistakes and orders him to unite the proper lovers, which he does, and ultimately also removes the spell from Titania as well, turning Bottom from an ass back to a man.
In the end, everyone ends up with the proper person (including a reconciled Titania and Oberon). A fabulous triple wedding is held uniting the Duke and his bride, Helena and Lysander, and Demetrius and Hermia. Bottom and his troupe of actor friends provide entertainment at the wedding feast, the fairies lull the couples into sleep and love, and all ends well in this longenduring romp in the woods.
Again, we give this entire production (lush costumes and sets, fabulous music) an A+, but Herb would watch Michelle Pfeiffer read the phone book!
