Tim Kaine for Lt. Governor
Richmond Mayor Tim Kaine, the Democratic candidate
for lieutenant governor, is a can-do guy — a
big thinker with an almost infectious exhilaration for public service.
Mr. Kaine is regarded as a bridge builder, and a Democratic governor will need all the bridge-building he can get with a Republican-led legislature.
As mayor, Mr. Kaine successfully steered the course of public debate away from that which divided people, to what was best for the community.
He is an advocate for local authority over local issues, a stand that strikes a true chord in Rappahannock County, due to the conflicts over growth controls we have had with the General Assembly in recent years.
Jerry Kilgore for Attorney General
As U.S. Attorney for the Western District of
Virginia, Republican Jerry Kilgore was regarded
as a tough, yet gentlemanly prosecutor.
This is Mr. Kilgore’s second attempt at winning the office of Attorney General — he was runner-up to Mark Earley in the his party’s 1997 primary.
Mr. Kilgore’s notable statewide achievement is working with U.S. Sen. George Allen (R), when he was governor, to reform the state’s parole system.
He is passionate about improving services to domestic violence victims, and he readily acknowledges the need to review state laws relating to terrorism — particularly with revelations that local residents assisted some of the terrorists involved in last month’s attacks.
