My husband, upon reading my last column said, “But you didn’t even give planting instructions!”
Of course, it is the naughty wood elves’ fault! They have now apolo- A gized for being so rude f and offer amends by M passing on the infor- f mation this week. In truth, it is all my fault, for having been so carried away with florid descriptions that it left no room for practical matters of depth, soil and technique.
So first, the matter of planting. The package and catalog instructions really are quite sufficient, but generally, a depth of 3-4” for small bulbs (crocuses, snowdrops, grape hyacinths), 6” for daffodils and 8” for tulips and other large bulbs is advised.
