made the U.S. rail zones official under federal law, and gave the Interstate Commerce Commission the responsibility to make any changes. They were the only federal transportation agency at that time.

The Department of Transportation was created by Congress in 1966, and the responsibility was transferred for the time laws to the new department.

The American law by which we turn our clocks forward in the spring and back in the fall, is known as the “Uniform Time Act of 1966”. This law did not require that everyone observe Daylight Saving Time, it meant “IP we are going to observe D.S.T. it must be done uniformly.

This law was amended in 1986 to begin Daylight Saving Time on the first Sunday in April.
