The second half pace was slower as neither team was able to score. The Blue Lightning front line of Emily Carter, Hannah Rosenbaum, Ella Miller and Megan Wheatley came close on several shots, and the defensive efforts of Emma Hathaway, Lily Day, Emma Dodd-Henze and Tiana Lucking frustrated the Madison offense. With less than one minute to play, a Madison forward sliced a shot across the goal, just making it inside the left post. Final score Madison 2, Blue Lightning 1.
Despite having just two of their ten games at home this fall, the Blue Lightning girls have played very well the last several games and travel to Orange this Saturday, and to Culpeper on Nov. 3 for their final game. Good luck girls!
The talents of the U-18 team were again displayed this weekend against Orange County. Our teens dominated the field with skill and a desire to win.
Komei Nakamura, an exchange student from Japan, played his first game with the team and scored two goals. The control that he brought to the midfield solidified the team. Juan Tisera, with three goals was the high scorer this week. James Jackson pounded out tw o scores and Doug White cleared a shot for one. Final score Rappahannock 8, Orange 0.
On a final note, the U-18 team will be playing under the lights this Friday evening at Comet Stadium in Culpeper, 8 p.m. This is always a great game to watch and our teens need some extra support for this big game! If you do not have plans yet for Friday, bring the family out for a night of soccer!
