Rapid City located at the foothills of the Black Hills was hit by a wall of water roaring down the canyons. The city water reservoir “Canyon Lake” collapsed and the combined deluge destroyed homes, trailer parks, camp grounds, businesses, power, communications, water, sewer, and lives of almost 400 people.
