All this doom and gloom stems from a recent decision by Virginia Gov. Mark R. Warner to cut $858 million in state spending to help offset Virginia’s nearly $2 billion budget shortfall.
This latest round of cuts announced two weeks ago shrinks programs and payrolls in virtually every aspect of government services, ranging from county extension offices to the Department of Motor Vehicles. State employees, taxpayers and those who use public services will be feeling the effect of this austerity plan.
Gov. Warner himself is taking a 20 percent reduction in his annual salary of $124,855. The Department of Motor Vehicles in Warrenton, which many Rappahannock residents use, will shut down permanently Nov.
