crentsviiie District streak of winning the girls championship as the Mountaineers had all five of their runners place in the top thirteen for a meet winning total of 50 points.
George Mason, led by race winner Annie Maynard with a time of 20:57 — a course record, finished second with 63 points while Clarke County was third with 69 points and Brentsville District earned the final Regional birth by edging Strasburg 85-86.
Elaine Smith finished 36th and Megan Humbles 37th for the Panthers. Elaine ran a time of 30:48 and Megan a time of 32:59.
Brentsville District continued its domination of Bull Run boys cross-country as all five Tiger runners finished in the top fourteen.
Andrew Montgomery from George Mason dominated the boys’ race with a course record of 16:59.
Brentsville had 37 points, George Mason 50 and Madison County 52 in the team scoring.
The fourth Regional birth went to Clarke County which edged Rappahannock County 117 to 131.
Ethan Berry ran a time of 19:48 good for 20th place while John Letsen finished 22nd at 19:57 and Kevin Martin 23rd at 19:59. Jonathan Robinson finished 32nd and Brian Brown 34th to round out the Panther scoring.
Girls’ basketball
The JV girls’ basketball team improved their record to 6-8 overall and 3-5 in the Bull Run District as the team upset Strasburg 2120.
