The wife was so charmed by all the little faces of the children that she begged her husband not to stop the river. So he promised her he wouldn’t and she promised the children they would have their river back the very next day. The wife was so happy for the young children that she gave them each a big juicy red apple for coming to her house late at night on such a cold dark October evening.
The next the morning, the old man and all of his friends took down the big wall of rocks they had piled up in the middle of the river, and instead built a little wooden bridge across it for all the people to use. All the young children and everyone else in the village was happy that the river could flow and they could still walk about even when it rained.
Legend has it that each year, on the last night of October, all of the mountain children dressed as fairies and went door to door throughout the old hollow saying ‘Trick or Treat’ to all
