at The Theatre
The Smithsonian at Little Washington opens its eleventh season at the Theatre at Washington, Va. on Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. The first performance of the new season will be another in the acclaimed “Brilliance of the Baroque" series: “Music from the French Court” performed by James Weaver, harpsichord, and Kenneth Slowik, viola da gamba.
James Weaver came to the Smithsonian in 1966 to organize concerts with restored instruments from the collections of the American History Museum. As founding director of the Smithsonian Chamber Players, he established the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society. This concert will mark his final appearance on the Theatre’s series as a Smithsonian employee, as he will bring his distinguished career at that museum to an end in November.
