Library Director David Shaffer informed the Library’s Board of Trustees that the Commonwealth took their maximum proposed cut—15 percent—in aid to the State’s libraries for this fiscal year.
For the Rappahannock County Public Library that cut will amount to nearly $4500 a sum that will not cripple library operations this year, but that could have an impact on the purchase of books and subscriptions. Mr. Shaffer also reported that the committee formed last month to brainstorm solutions to State budget cuts determined that some savings may be realized due to Ms. Glenn’s scheduled departure in January and the unlikelihood that she can be replaced readily, and that other small measures should be taken to further cut costs.
