will be looking at content, effective use of language, and the complexity of thought, they will be grading the essays as first drafts. Graders do not expect students to write a fully polished essay in 25 minutes and even with a few spelling and grammar mistakes students can still earn perfect scores. It is also felt that the writing portion will give students a better chance to express and apply what they have learned in school.
