At the tender age of eight years old, Tareq Salahi began placing vines in the ground at what is now know as one of the largest wineries in the state of Virginia.
What begaii as a hobby for his grandfather and father, has been cultivated into internationally acclaimed vintages for the Rappahannock native, with Oasis Winery, in Huntly, having sparkling wines rated in the top 10 in the world.
“It was a hobby gone mad,” laughed Salahi, “we enjoyed the friendship, love and passion that went with planting a vineyard, but I did not expect it to grow like this.”
Salahi is already preparing for Oasis’ 30th anniversary in 2007, which coincidentally is alsd the Commonwealth’s 400th anniversary in winemaking.
