As of March 21, 2005, the deferral criteria related to variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, the human form of Mad Cow disease, will change.
Donors who may have been deferred from making a blood and/or platelet donation in the past may once again be eligible.
All donors who attempted to give blood when the original guidelines were in place will be notified of this change by letter, and should not attempt to give blood until that letter is received.
