All joking aside, there are rumblings in Loudoun County about a possible split. Some county residents have rallied and are talking about slicing off a portion of western Loudoun County to call it their own and reclaim the land from extensive development. They are calling themselves Citizens for Catoctin Comity (CCC) and they are uniting to work up a plan, set boundaries, start petitions, look at costs and perhaps most importantly start to lobby those folks in Richmond about creating a separate county — something that hasn’t happened in Virginia in over a hundred years. On the positive side, cities have been created dur{ ing that time frame with populations far less than the proposed Catoctin County so the notion isn’t without precedence. When it comes to battles between the minority and the majority, the majority may win but it doesn’t mean that-they are always right. No doubt the CCC will arm themselves for battle as best they can. Their odds aren’t strongly in their favor but their fight has merit and Virginians are tough. Residents of Rappahannock can watch from afar how this newly emboldened group fares. Perhaps the winds of change will blow favorably for them.
