Operation Blue and Gray is a day set aside by the Virginia State Police (VSP) once a quarter, pulling in supervisors and troopers for a 100-percent saturation in resources patrolling primary and secondary roads.
On this particular day, Rtes. 17, 29, 211 and 522 were of major concern due to a tremendous amount of telephone calls VSP has received in recent months regarding driving behaviors on those highways.
Speeding was the major issue, with 168 summons being issued.
Thirty-five summons were issued for reckless driving, including aggressive driving (tailgating, becoming irritated when there is no passing lane and other drivers are following speed limits) and speeding in excess.
