Tam on the television and within 60 minutes one can see a crime committed, w atch the detectives find the assailant and then the district attorney fights for justice — and generally wins his case.
However, real life is not so easy and not all crimes are solved.
Such is the case that dates back to Halloween night, Oct. 31, 1967 when Dr. William. Eugene Lynn, 54, of Flint Hill was murdered in his driveway.
The sheriff in Rappahannock County was Charles K “Pete” Estes, who is currently the chairman of Rappahannock County’s Board of Supervisors.
Estes recalls that Halloween night well, “I was down here at the Sperryville Rescue Squad building at a Halloween party when the call came over the State Police radio.”
Estes immediately drove to the Lynn residence, located near present day Wakefield Country Day School, only to find that Lynn’s body had already been removed from the scene by rescue personnel.
Not only wets that evidence disturbed, but approximately 100 people had trampled the scene, destroying any possible clues authorities could hope to find.
