“What really punches me in the stomach is that somebody took advantage of the fugitive situation to rob the school,” said Sherertz at the time.
Masters has been charged with vandalism and breaking and entering before. In 2001, Masters and two other teenagers Richard Satorius and Alexander Hart, were convicted of similar crimes for destroying the interior of the 18th century mansion Montpelier, located near Sperryville. The three did an estimated $200,000 worth of damage to the historic site. In a curious coincidence, Lt. Smith was one of the lead investigators of that incident, and personally arrested Masters. Prior to being charged for the vandalism of Montpelier, Masters was in RCSO custody for yet another robbery.
Since the break in at RCHS, Lt. Smith has recovered many of the missing power tools, matching them by serial numbers to those reported stolen. Lt. Smith told The Rappahannock News that she could not reveal details about the recovery of the tools because doing so might
