Looking at a legacy

William Henry “Billy” Lyne, 95, of Culpeper died Tuesday, August 22 at the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Home.

He was born October 30, 1910 at Willow Grove in Orange County, Va., to the late Hiram Oliver and Peachey Sizer Lyne.

At his childhood home of Willow Grove, Mr. Lyne learned to ride at an early age because his father raised thoroughbreds.

He raced a few times, mostly on the flat track, in the annual fall races at Montpelier.
