Awhile ago, there were two
diametrically opposed members of Parliament in England. One was Nancy Astor, a Virginian who married an MP and succeeded him when he died; she was feisty and had a waspish tongue. The other was A.P. Herbert, a noted wit.
One day in Parliament, Nancy Astor inveighed at length on the evils of alcohol. She concluded her address by saying, “I would never put any of that nasty stuff in my stomach.”
