RCHS students who have meet GPA requirements and plan to attend an accredited college, career or technical institution. Preference is given to first-generation students, meaning those who will be the first in their families to attend college. Applicants are chosen by a committee of the Next Step Board. In the double-blind selection process, all identifying information is removed from students’ applications. Contributions to the Dream Fund of any amount or welcome.
The Elizabeth Biggs Scholarship Fund honors the late Elizabeth Proctor Biggs, a schoolteacher for thirty years who strongly believed that each person was a unique individual, that every one and every thing had some good in them, and that goodness could be uncovered, nurtured, and put to use to pass on to others. The Elizabeth Biggs Scholarship Fund is for students who have participated in the Starfish Mentoring Program or experienced another mentoring relationship where the connection between the young person and the adult contributed to the lives of both and served the community in a way exemplified by Elizabeth Biggs’s relationships with young people.
This summer, six young graduates of the RCHS class of 2006 are headed off to college who will receive extra financial help from these new scholarship funds. Each of these students will be the first in their families to pursue higher education.
