Having just celebrated
one of those ‘milestone
birthdays’, I find myself increasingly focused on what I have to contribute in service to others and how I might express my purpose through my work. Now expressing purpose is a lot easier said than done, especially if you, like many of us, are still trying hard to define your own. At the age of 20, we all thought we had plenty of time to sort out this important question. But as the decades move on, many of us find ourselves on a relentless quest for meaning and fulfillment, especially in the aspects of our lives (like our jobs) that demand so much of our time and attention. I’ve discovered that in our own beautiful county a lot of assistance exists with unraveling this question, if we just pause for a moment to notice.
There is, for example, so much that we can learn from the nature that surrounds us here, especially the animals that are a part of our lives. I am constantly reminded of this fact whenever 1 slow down long enough to observe my dog, Lucy. She’s been one of my greatest teachers.
Now I won’t tell you the exact difference in our ages, but Lucy is a lot younger than me, just coming out of the ‘puppy years’... and she’s a lot wiser. Just watching how she handles life and remains purpose-focused is a lesson for us all. Lucy begins each day with a wide yawn and a long stretch,
