Imagine! Your teenager comes to you and says she has a longing to study in a distant land, far from everything that is familiar, a place called America.
Although you have seen and heard things on T.V., in movies and read about the United States in the news, your young adult wants to leave everything behind for ten months to live with a family, perfect strangers, whom you cannot choose.
The thought of not being able to even visit until June, to be allowed once a week contact so that your teen can be fully immersed in their new life, is unthinkable.
And yet, the desire in your child is so strong, they are so determined that this is what is right for them, that you allow them to spread their wings and live in a foreign environment, with different moral values, new points of view, where they will see and get to do things you will only be able to imagine.
Rappahannock County has been busy welcoming twelve foreign exchange students who began arriving August 12th to families of Wakefield Country Day School, Rappahannock High School and Hearthstone School through a non-profit (organization called Aspect Foundation.
