The official candidates for Piedmont Supervisor areEddie Wayland, Dr. Monira Rifaat, and Kim Estes Baader. Rifaat and Estes Baader previously sought appointment to the position when it was left vacant by the death of BOS Chairman Charles K. “Pete” Estes last April. They were passed over in favor of current Interim Supervisor Tom Taylor. However, Taylor has declared that he will not seek election to the seat in November, paving the way for an incumbentless race.
The beleaguered 894 registered voters of the Piedmont District, who have lost two supervisors in just a few months, will have to be impressed by one or another of the candidates by the November 7 election.
The August 25 deadline means that no others are legally allowed to run, except by an unlikely write in campaign.

Public hearing
on new fines
In September’s evening session, The Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing to discuss new statewide legislation that will assess a flat fee of $250.00 to drivers involved in specific violations or incidents that require county emergency vehicles. The violations involved include reckless driving, driving under the influence, improperly leaving the scene of an accident, or driving on a suspended or revoked license. Anyone convicted of those violations in incidents that caused a Rappahannock County emergency vehicle to respond to the scene would be charged the $250.00 fee. The supervisors voted unanimously in favor of this proposal at their August meeting.
The Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors will meet in the Rappahannock County Courthouse in Washington, VA at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6. They will also hold an evening session at 7:00 p.m.
