What drives a man with a thirty-five year, international career as a Civil Engineer and Economist to try his hand at writing a novel?
What does he have to learn or perhaps even unlearn to move from the constraints of technical writing to the creation of compelling characters and an engaging plot? And then what Herculean efforts does it take to get his work published once the book is written?
Local author Robert Elwood Burns will explore those questions and read from his work on Friday, Sept. 8 at 8 p.m. as the featured speaker for the first in this year’s Second Friday at the Library Series, sponsored by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community tRAAC).
Burns’ fiction is informed by a rich and varied life experience, played out in many parts of the world. Educated at the University of Kentucky, M.I.T. and Harvard, Burns has been a Peace Corps Volunteer in Malaysia
