The targets of the four burglaries were old family homes and workshops that are ho longer in regular use but still filled with valuable items. Due to the vacant nature of the buildings, the exact date of the robberies is unknown, but the owners of the various properties reported items stolen starting in late July and early August. The thieves have stolen antique wagon wheels, old handmade furniture, and antique hand tools. According to Lt. Connie Smith,the substantial number and size of the items suggests several thieves using a truck to transport the stolen goods. Accordingly, the RCSO has been on the lookout for trucks carrying furniture in the area, which led to an sunusing mix up when Lt. Smith pulled over a truck driven by Jed Duvall and Jim Blubaugh loaded with items for a Democratic Party yard sale.
“I saw a big truck full of furniture and I had to check it out,” explained Smith.
