Waldorf roots
Mr. Mattke graduated from the first Waldorf School in Stuttgart, Germany, where his father was a Waldorf teacher of Latin and Greek. He matriculated from the University Tuebingen in Southern Germany, the University of Vienna and the Max Reinhardt Institute. He has been a Waldorf teacher for 35 years and is a member of the steering committee for the European Waldorf Association and Board Member for the Rudolf Steiner Institute. Since 1982 he has served as adviser and helped formulate the Washington Waldorf School’s and the Honolulu Waldorf School’s high schools, and regularly advises several other Waldorf schools on the East and West Coasts of the United States. He is a regular teacher at the New York Waldorf School and at the Rudolf Steiner Institute, where he has taught classes on the psychology of adolescence, theories of education, the inner life of a teacher, art history, architecture and other subjects.
Mr. Mattke visits Hearthstone School to guide and advise the school at least once each school year.
