When candidates from the Piedmont and Stonewall-Hawthome districts run for Rappahannock County’s Board of Supervisors and School Board in November, they will be aiming for two-year terms instead of the usual four years in office.
The one-time measure is being implemented to stagger the terms of elected county officials and prevent the possibility of all five representatives on each board from turning over at the same time.
Piedmont and StonewallHawthome were chosen at random for the abbreviated terms on March 5 prior to the Board of Supervisors’ monthly meeting.
County Registrar of Voters Nancy Newlin wrote the names of the five districts on pieces of paper and placed them in a box. Elections Board Chair Dorothy Warner then blindly pulled out the papers that had Piedmont and Stonewall-Hawthome written on them.
